2010 BHC Kickoff Shark Tournament Jan 8-16/Mar 12-20-2010
Greenie, its done and over. you've stated your story on what happened. But the rules are the rules. you'll have another chance in March to catch and measure a nice shark in much better weather. hopefully in March there will be more team willing to join and then winnings will be more.

Colby Uva is an upstanding person and University student whom I have the upmost respect for, I William Fundora let him host his shark tournament on this site because i trust his good intentions, his methods and his love and passion for this sport. This is his tournament, was and is from the outset and he set up the rules and ultimately the one that has to enforce them,,,,,,,I have no horse in this race but bottom line in my opinion and from everything that I have seen Mike Crote post -those rules were not met.
NO QUALIFYING SHARKS WERE CAUGHT IN THIS TOURNAMENT!!!!
That's not to say that no sharks were caught.Yes there were sharks caught but none met the 5 foot required minimum overall length. In all fairness to the rest of the teams competing Colby has offered to return there money or reschedule the tournament for March at which time the teams can compete once again.I believe Mike Crote is a good fisherman ,i believe Mike Crote probably caught the biggest shark in this tournament and the most also from what he has told me but unfortunetly there is no way to confirm the overall length of the shark if the measuring tape was not stretched out alongside it's body. That's my opinion.
I will not allow this thread to get derailed with people ranting and going back and forth,i will lock it and i will delete users if i see disrespect and bashing taking place. I for one have a goal of uniting the land-based shark fisherman and have said so from the very beginning of this one of a kind website and believe that we need more projects to unify the sport not problems like this that have a simple answer to disrupt the peace.

Just got word Team Dirty South caught a 8 foot 8 inch bull and a blacktip on a beach in Key Biscayne and all we caught on Long key bridge was 25 to 30 mph winds. Can't wait to see the pics and the video.

Fishing with Zipper club and having a Blast
The weather in the keys has been less then favorable with winds reaching 30 mph the water has been muirky and the shark bites so far non-existent.We are at Fiesta key Rv campground and getyting ready to try another night of shark fishing .As I get older catching becomes less important and spending valuble time with family and friends takes on new meaning.Having a blast .
dropping down an AJ on a rope to chum up a Monster at Long key bridge
Julio and Edgar both open heart surgery patients at one time--hope these guys can handle a Big Hammer!!

Never quit is the lesson! After 3 days of trying persistence by our team paid off in a big way .We spread out to different areas and we found a solid bunch of blacktips that made our efforts worthwhile.I spoke with JD hammer on the phone on Friday and he asked me what I thougt about the keys for the weekend and I told him "too much wind ,and the water is very murky" because of that you should head north to fish West palm or North of there ,,,,,,,,he did and it paid off very nicely.A Solid fresh bait hookup and constant work of very determined kayakers/shark hunters got us results.Saturday night, all of Sunday and Monday 3/15/2010 produced 14 blacktips with only 12 that qualify because one was a short and the other a picture taken by a tourist on the beach did not come out at all.Don't know what button he pressed but obviously not the right one.Tommorow we'll post some pictures going too bed very tired.
There's a rumor of a 8 foot 9 inch Bull but so far no report or pics.

Old JD Hammer just landed an 8ft 2 bull from haulover inlet. his son jimmy also caugght a big 400lb 8foot 6 bull, however since he isnt fishing in the tournament his dosent count. We in the South Florida Shark Club do everything by the books, to us Karma is the deciding factor of everything!!!!!!!!
Dont forget we are also not counting one of our black tips due to a bad picture.
More sharks on the way!!!
